AN ENDLESS STORY LADDER

How to play Story Ladder

  1. Choose the opening winner.Read two stories without scores influencing you.
  2. Defend the crown. The winner stays. The loser leaves and a new story takes its place.
  3. Build a streak.Keep choosing for as long as you like, or end the ladder whenever you are ready.

A six-word story game that changes the rankings

Story Ladder is not a separate popularity contest. Each head-to-head result adds one positive reader point to the winning story and one negative reader point to the losing story. Those totals feed the same Rising, Top and Divisive rankings used across Six Word Story.

The defending champion can earn another point by defeating a different challenger. Exact matchups cannot be replayed by the same reader, and stories and scores stay hidden until the verdict. There is no artificial round limit: the ladder continues with fresh challengers until you decide to stop or no eligible challengers remain.

What should decide the winner?

There is no official checklist. Trust the story that creates the stronger afterthought. You might notice a sharper turn, a more vivid image, better rhythm or a larger unwritten world. If you want to study those techniques more deliberately, read the complete writing guide or browse explained six-word story examples.

Story Ladder questions

Does the champion really gain a point every round?

Yes. If the same champion defeats three different challengers, it earns three positive reader points. Each losing challenger receives one negative reader point.

Can I replay the same matchup?

No. The same reader cannot score the same pair twice. A fresh challenger creates a genuinely new comparison.

Can I quit without penalizing a story?

Yes. “End this ladder” records nothing further. Only completed choices change story totals.

How many rounds can I play?

As many as you like. Story Ladder has no fixed finish line, so a champion can keep defending its place against fresh challengers until it loses or you end the session.
