These pairs appear together more often than their individual frequencies would predict. They are corpus relationships, not synonyms.
Methodology and limits
The corpus includes published pieces that pass the site's six-word validation and are not hidden. Words are lowercased, punctuation is removed and whole-word matching is used. Opening and ending charts retain common function words because position is the subject. Distinctive-vocabulary and pairing calculations remove common English stopwords.
“Lift” compares the observed rate with the rate expected from each word's overall frequency. Reader-response findings use genuine post-launch votes only, with minimum story and vote thresholds. They describe association, not cause or editorial merit. Editorial seed scores are excluded from audience analysis. Counts change as pieces and judgments are added.
